Nutragenetics: Where gene assessment meets personalized care

Happy (almost) Summer!

First, many have asked for our next DEXA event. We love semi-annual DEXAs to track trends + stay abreast of areas for clinical consideration.

DEXA tracks more than (important) bone mass, it also catalogs lean mass (muscle being our "organ of longevity") and the two kinds of adipose tissue: subcutaneous—non-harmful, seen in our typical "female fat" distribution—and visceral fat, which is inflammatory and surrounds our central organs. It often results from insulin resistance, metabolic changes of perimenopause and higher "activation" states of the nervous system.

Join us on June 16th for your 7 minute scan. Feel free to share with non-Gingko friends who may benefit from the data too!

Nutrigenetics Testing

At Gingko Integrative Medicine, we offer Nutrigenetics testing as part of our precision-care approach to women’s health. It analyzes specific genetic variations (SNPs) that influence how women metabolize nutrients, manage weight, regulate cardiometabolic risk, detoxify hormones, and respond to physical activity, caffeine, and key micronutrients—factors central to mood, energy, cycle health, fertility, and healthy aging. We use this DNA-based information to identify where a patient needs targeted support, such as optimizing methylation nutrients, tailoring macronutrient ratios, or adjusting caffeine and sodium intake to match her genetic sensitivities. Recommendations link clearly to a patient’s own biology rather than to generic population guidelines.

Integration of these findings with comprehensive blood work and functional testing gives us the fullest picture of a patient’s physiology. Genetics can reveal an increased need for certain nutrients or a tendency toward cardiometabolic or hormone detoxification challenges, while serum markers—such as lipids, inflammatory markers, micronutrient levels, glucose and insulin dynamics, thyroid and sex hormones, and liver function—show us what is actually happening, in the body at the current moment. By overlaying a patient’s genetic blueprint with real-time biomarkers, we distinguish between predisposition and current imbalance, then design highly personalized plans that are both preventive and therapeutic. This provides a clear roadmap for supporting long-term hormonal, metabolic, and emotional resilience at every developmental life stage.

Lastly, enjoy the final days of May!

We KNOW this is a crazy time for moms; please retain your "life-vest" of mindfulness, sleep, hydration (& positive self-regard). We "see" you and toast your many efforts.

Warmly, Rachel
